I’m a(n)…
engineer, mom, foster/adoptive mom, volunteer, and so much more.
I’m passionate about…
water, freshwater specifically so streams and wetlands. Also hiking and rock climbing.
Briefly describe your work.
I am a professional engineer with 14 years of experience in stream restoration design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stream restoration, and stream assessments. I perform and provide instruction for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling; field surveying; geomorphic assessments; and GIS mapping and analyses.
What do you love about what you do?
I love that I am an engineer that gets to go outside for work. It is my job to study and understand streams and wetlands, which are beautifully messy and complex.
How did you start (your work)?
Graduating from undergrad I wanted to figure out what engineers actually did before I went to graduate school, so I went to work for a civil and environmental firm in Maryland (moved from California without having ever been to Maryland before). I got to work on a variety of projects but absolutely loved the stream and wetland restoration projects.
Where do you see your work going in the next year… five?
I’ve been doing a lot of teaching and writing for work while living in New York but my family is heading out to Tennessee next year and I hope the future has a bit more project work. I also enjoy the teaching, so I will be hoping to find balance.
