Join us for an intimate evening of scintillating guitar work and vibrant vocal harmonies, with two dynamic musical duos.
Sharon Goldman and Beacon’s own Amy Soucy are a soulful folk duo who perform in top concert venues, coffeehouses and house concerts around the tri-state area. This summer Amy was named the winner of the 2016 Grassy Hill Songwriting Competition at the CT Folk Festival and was featured in the Grassy Hill Emerging Artists Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.
They’ll share the bill with guitarist Jon Shain and bassist FJ Ventre coming up from North Carolina. They’ve been playing together, on-and-off, since they met in Massachusetts 35 years ago and have been finalists at the International Blues Challenge.

BEAHIVE’s OPEN HIVE / Music series aims to nurture the art of listening. We bring local/regional songwriters together with diverse touring performers and present them in our beautiful, intimate space for a truly unique and authentic “listening room” experience (free from TVs, high ticket prices, chattering bar patrons, and cappuccino machines).
Jon Shain & FJ Ventre
“Jon Shain brings a fingerpicked folk sound that sparkles like fine crystal with similar delicacy and scintillation. He’s well versed in Piedmont country blues but equally adept at soft-spoken story-songs, delivered in a dry, easygoing tenor.”
—Chris Parker, The Independent Weekly
Jon and FJ have recorded a long list of original folk-blues albums, been finalists at the International Blues Challenge, and have appeared alongside acts such as John Hiatt, Little Feat, and Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson. In addition to performing, and working on their new co-writing project, they are also producing other artists at Good Luck Studios in Chapel Hill.
Amy Soucy & Sharon Goldman
Beacon-based Amy Soucy and Sharon Goldman, from Metuchen, NJ, have critically-acclaimed solo songwriting careers on their own. Both have showcased at premier conferences and festivals, like Falcon Ridge Folk Festival’s Emerging Artists Showcase, NERFA DJ & NERFA Boston (Sharon) and NERFA Quad (Amy) showcases, as well as John Platt’s “On Your Radar” series at Rockwood Music Hall. Amy’s debut CD, This River, was among the top folk albums of 2015 on both the Folk DJ Listserv and the Roots Music Report international radio airplay charts.
As a dynamic duo, Sharon and Amy create laughter-laden concerts that shimmer and soothe with infectious pop and indie-folk melodies and gorgeous harmonies, mixing sophisticated original songs and carefully-curated cover tunes.
