Beacon resident Maceo J. Whitaker will read from his first collection of poems, Narco Farm. He’ll be joined by Fishkill-based poet Ken Holland.
“Whitaker writes about addiction, homelessness, violence, poverty, and love — a gritty, bluesy descendant of Frank O’Hara, a maestro at wedding image and sound, pathos and humor. Narco Farm speaks of a troubled and troubling America. His poems are necessary, compassionate, knowing that we need to ‘begin once again to be human.’”
Maceo’s poems have appeared in dozens of national and international journals, including Beloit Poetry Journal, Boulevard, The Common, The Florida Review, Fugue, Hotel Amerika, Linebreak, the minnesota review, New Haven Review, North American Review, PANK, The Pinch, POETRY, Rattle, and RHINO.
Ken Holland has had poetry and prose published in several dozen literary journals, including Confrontation, Rattle, Roanoke Review, and Southwest Review. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
