“Remember the name Rupert Boyd. While there may never be another classical guitarist like Segovia, this young Australian left his Marlow Guitar Series audience with the impression that someday there may not be the likes of him again, either.”
— The Washington Post
Cellist Laura Metcalf, acclaimed for her “gorgeous cello legatos” (Washington Post) and her “sensitive, melodic touch” (BlogCritics Magazine), is known for her compelling solo and chamber music performances both worldwide and in her home of NYC.
Australian guitarist Rupert Boyd is acclaimed as one of the most talented guitarists of his generation, and has been described by The Washington Post as “truly evocative” and by Classical Guitar Magazine as “a player who deserves to be heard.” His performing career has taken him across four continents, from New York’s Carnegie Hall, to festivals in Europe, China, Nepal, the Philippines and Australia. His solo CD Valses Poéticos received the following review in Soundboard, the quarterly publication of Guitar Foundation of America: “Boyd’s playing is beautifully refined, with gorgeous tone… musically and technically flawless… [the Granados is] one of the best recorded performances of this work on guitar.”
American cellist Laura Metcalf, lauded for her “gorgeous cello legatos” (The Washington Post) and her “sensitive, melodic touch” (BlogCritics Magazine), enjoys an active career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and teacher. She is cellist of acclaimed string quintet Sybarite5, winners of the 2011 Concert Artists Guild Competition, and has performed sold-out concerts at the Library of Congress, Lincoln Center and many other venues across the US. Sybarite5 made their Carnegie Hall debut in 2012, and their album “Disturb the Silence” reached No. 10 on the Billboard Charts. Laura is also a member of the cello-percussion quartet Break of Reality, whose albums have sold more than 30,000 copies worldwide. Laura has appeared on the David Letterman Show, the Today Show, The View, Late Night with Conan O’Brian, and at the US Open and New York Fashion Week.
Howland Chamber Music Circle brings outstanding concerts to the Mid-Hudson Valley. Its smaller size venues allows chamber music to be heard in the kind of intimate setting for which it was originally intended. They feature both prominent musicians and rising stars.
