Symbiopsychotaxiplasm Take One
In his one-of-a-kind fiction/documentary hybrid, director William Greaves presides over a beleaguered film crew in New York’s Central Park, leaving them to try to figure out what kind of movie they’re making. A couple enacts a break-up scenario over and over, a documentary crew films a crew filming the crew, locals wander casually into the frame: the project defies easy description. Yet this wildly innovative sixties counterculture landmark remains one of the most tightly focused and insightful movies ever made about making movies. Criterion presents this long-unreleased gem in a special two-disc edition, along with its sequel, Take 2½, made thirty-five years later with executive producers Steven Soderbergh and Steve Buscemi.
Proceeds will go to the Beacon Independent Film Festival (BIFF) and the Beacon Arts & Education Foundation (BAEF).
So, included in your $20 admission:
1) a good movie
2) beer & refreshments
3) a night out in a relaxed atmosphere
4) a donation to two organizations active in the Beacon community
Every three months we’ll screen an independent film that you may have missed the first time around or haven’t seen in a while and is not so readily available on services such as Netflix. The BIFF & BAEF Movie Nights are celebration of great films with good friends and an awesome selection of beer provided by The Hop.
BIFF is a grassroots nonprofit organization that is putting together the 1st Annual Beacon Independent Film Festival, which will be held Sept. 13-15, 2013.
BIFF’s mission also includes an education component that will begin this year (in partnership with BAEF) with a filmmaking program in the middle school. The goal of the program is to guide the students through the filmmaking process, from conceiving an idea to shooting it to editing the final product. The instructors consist of a group of volunteers who are working professionals in all aspects of film and television.
BAEF is a coalition of parents, teachers, residents and local businesses in partnership with the Community Foundation of Dutchess County. Their common goal is to support a more comprehensive education for the students of the Beacon City School District through fundraising and grant writing.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact BIFF.
