Beacon Film Society Screening: Godfrey Reggio’s ‘Visitors’
Tue, Mar 25, 2014
7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Film starts at 7:30 PM.
Thirty years after Koyaanisqatsi, Reggio, with composer Philip Glass and co-director Jon Kane, once again leapfrogs over earth-bound filmmakers and creates another stunning, wordless portrait of modern life.
Visitors reveals humanity’s trancelike relationship with technology, which, when commandeered by extreme emotional states, produces massive effects far beyond the human species. Comprised of only seventy-four shots, the film is visceral, offering the audience an experience beyond information about the moment in which we live.
The latest film from the collaborators of the Qatsi anthology, Visitors world premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and opened theatrically earlier this year.
“Visitors turns its predecessors’ concepts inside out… Here, time slows to a near-standstill as the film peers into humanity’s troubled soul, glimpsed through the individual faces, which sometimes appear to be studying us as intently as we are studying them.” (The New York Times)
“Glass’s score provides essential guidance…not just a record of existence but what it means to experience it.” (IndieWire)
